Male character Mock up

As the costume for the male characters are not as important as 'Caro's' costume I collected the basic images we would be looking for and I have edited the images together in 'Sketchbook copic edition' to create a mannequin of the male costume.

Using the inspiration from these images, our previous knowledge of 1950's/40's fashions, Caro Emerald's style and our own ideas to draw out the designs for the 3 'looks' for the Caro character.

Costume Designs for 'Caro' Character 1

We feel that mise en scene is very important in a music video like Caro's, especially costume so we carried out lots of research on authentic 40's/50's clothing and contemporary vintage clothing. We wanted the right mix of authenticity and almost 'rose-tinted' nostalgia about the era to come through in the costumes. Here are some typical images we drew inspiration from...

We will take inspiration from both 40's and 50's style of clothes as Caro's music incorporates both eras.  Recurring features include:

1940's
  • Open collar or v-neck
  • Short sleeves
  • Pale colours in various flower and spot prints
  • Belts or ribbon
  • Knee length

1950's
  • Sweet-heart necklines, halter -necks or 3/4 sleeves
  • Full skirt - often using a net skirt to add volume
  • Bright or dramatic colours.e.g. red, blue and black - often with spots, stripes or some kind of ditsy pattern
  • Belts of contrasting colours to 'sinch in' waist
  • Knee length

Storyboard

We decided to draw out our storyboard by hand, as we both think visually rather than with words. This means that our story board is on paper and more than 20 pages long. This is why we have scanned the first 3 pages into our blogs, to give an idea of how it looks, but not to waste time scanning.
